CAN I EDIT MY VOLLEYBALL RECRUITING VIDEO MYSELF?
Can I edit my own recruiting video? My answer is absolutely. There are lots of resources available for people to access the power of video, and the power of internet marketing. I have been one of those parents - camera in hand (and often on a tripod), at our kids’ sporting events. I have amassed hundreds of hours of volleyball footage - from the early young teams, through high school, and the advanced club teams. Thinking about editing highlights down into a short, focused and effective video to share with college coaches is daunting for anyone - and it can be done.
Start with a goal of showcasing your son/daughter’s strengths. These are usually associated with the position/s they play. Include footage of the other skill sets involved in their position- even if they are still developing. College coaches want to get a gauge of where a player is, and what they might have an opportunity to work with if they were able to invite them to join their roster.
Showcasing skills goes beyond the sport as well - and into the classroom and other activities they are involved with. Plan to integrate these elements with your recruiting approach, either in the video or in an email with coaches.
Plan to be proactive in your recruiting process. Remember - colleges may be looking for one or two players per year, and they may not be the position your son/daughter plays.
When you are editing your volleyball recruiting videoo, try to make it easy for a coach to see your son/daughter on the court - and know where to watch. Also, lead with their best skills, showcase all, and be concise. Coaches do not have a lot of time (who does), and the quicker they can assess a player, the better.
Yes, you can edit a recruiting video. My advice is to be patient, methodical, and go through multiple rough-cuts until it starts feeling right and you are happy with the outcome!
