50Films Blog

The learning that I have gained to this point has been amazing. I never imagined that committing to a project like this would generate so much interest, support and so many ideas from people.

The biggest hurdle for me was committing to this project - producing 50 short films in 365 days - which is very ambitious. The second part for me, has been going public about this. Going public about something like this does leave one vulnerable - but it also serves as a great motivator. I do have some other avenues I still need to publicly announce this project to, and also invite people’s ideas for films.

The idea generation for films has been tremendous. I have had many ideas from friends and acquaintances, and some have been produced, and some just shot to this point, while others are in the planning stage or under consideration.

The biggest value of this project for me to date has been the ongoing creativity of searching out new projects all the time. There is not a waking hour that goes by without thinking about this project and the 365 day deadline.

Last week I shot a very moving topic of a service dog in a special needs class with children challenged by autism. Elliot, the service dog, was very sweet, patient and caring around the kids - and the kids liked having him in the classroom. More amazing to me was how the teachers were communicating with these children both verbally and using sign language, and the kids were signing back. It really opened up a new avenue of thought for me on this subject.

OK, back to editing and project planning!
