How I learned to love YouTube.
I have been in the video business since 1985, cut my
teeth on 3/4” tape - which is pretty close to the
beginning of time. This was a perfect time to be
getting into the industry, and the technology has
only gotten better, cheaper, and lighter.
Web video is one of the new delivery mediums which I think is amazing. Not only does it put client videos a couple clicks away from customers, but it also saves the environment by reducing the use of plastics and chemicals used for tapes and discs - a huge savings.
I had always shied away from YouTube as a delivery medium because it seemed like the cheap delivery method for video. When I would see a video on a nice website sourced from YouTube with the little logo in the corner, I would cringe and think that after spending all the time and resources on a video program, why not source it in a way that didn’t add the that little tag on it.
Well, my thoughts have changed, and I am now a big fan. The ease of delivering both HD and standard definition video over the web is amazing. And the ease with which one can upload a program, and also get statistics (insights) on it, makes it a no-brainer as a choice.
The other thing that I am very pleased with is the ability to create a channel for an organization/company/client - where delivery of public and private videos can be sourced from is great.
I think that the online technology has just progressed to a degree where YouTube offers so many great options, and the resource is so prevalent on the web, that it makes it an easy choice for a delivery option - even for somebody who once saw it as cheap!
